Park City Historic Preservation and Streetscape Improvements to Main Street

2016     Legacy Award, Urban Design, Utah Chapter, Park City, Utah

Park City’s Main Street is the heart of the city with year round activities and events surrounded by skiers and Sundance Film Festival attendees in the winter, and hikers, cyclists, shoppers, and tourists during spring, summer, and fall.
MGB+A worked with the city staff to create a new standard for the Main Street streetscape that tied the eclectic blend of historic storefronts together as well as the creation of a number of pass through spaces that reinforce the historic identity of the city while creating new public gathering spaces within the historic city center.

Weber State University

1999     Centennial Medallion Award, ASLA National, Ogden, Utah

Since the early 1970’s, MGB+A  has had an active role in the development of Weber State University, one of the premier campus designs in the state,  The magnificent water feature amid terraced parking sets an exquisite foreground to this hillside campus.  The master plan and campus planning efforts continue to build upon the uniform campus motifs and functional layout.

Harrisville Canal

1992     National Design Award, ASLA National, Ogden, Utah

A badly deteriorating concrete culvert canal bisecting the western edge of campus created an unsightly and unsafe obstacle that needed to be replaced.  As an alternative to reconstructing the culvert, or burying the canal in pipe, MGB+A proposed opening the channel and converting it into a water feature. Exposed aggregate walls were designed to form irregular edges that allow for a variety of seating areas, gathering places, and safe access to the water. Decorative paving and water related plants compliment the overall uniqueness of this sculptured waterway.  This project won one of the state’s first national ASLA awards.
