Harrisville Canal + ATC

Harrisville Canal + ATC

Ogden, Utah
Client: Weber Applied Technology Center
Scope: Landscape Architecture

A badly deteriorating concrete culvert canal bisecting the western edge of Weber ATC campus created an unsightly and unsafe obstacle that needed to be replaced. As an alternative to reconstructing the culvert, or burying the canal in pipe, MGB+A proposed opening the channel and converting it into a water feature. Exposed aggregate walls were designed giving an historic wall appearance forming irregular edges that allow for a variety of seating areas, gathering places, and safe access to the water. Decorative paving and water related plants compliment the overall uniqueness of this sculptured waterway. This project won one of the state’s first national ASLA awards.
