Tijuana Temple

LOCATION – Tijuana, Mexico

SIZE – 9.5 Acres

CLIENT – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

SCOPE – Landscape Architecture, Urban Design

COMPLETION – December 2015

MGB+A visited the Tijuana area and documented local architectural and landscape themes used to develop a site plan with CRSA, the project architect, that situated the Temple in a prominent location while accommodating future phased development of the site and integrating seamlessly into the historic setting.

The first phase includes a large central courtyard that is enclosed by the Temple, patron and missionary housing, and an arcade. Efforts were taken to follow precedents from the region and strong historic influences are found throughout the site. The central courtyard emphasizes the importance of the Temple and highlights vistas to its central spire with rows of lush palm trees, formal plantings, and a central water feature. Large and small gathering spaces create rooms for intimate seating areas and group pictures.
