USU College of Agriculture

USU College of Agriculture

Logan, Utah
Client: Utah State University College of Agriculture
Scope: Landscape Architecture

With the elimination of the Merrill Library years ago on the Utah State University Campus, a large open area was left open immediately adjacent to the historic quad in the heart of the campus. MGB+A was employed to site the new College of Agriculture facility, USU’s flag ship building, within this area. This site is at the apex of campus grids integrating campus pedestrian paths together tying west campus with east campus. Because of its prevalent location, input was received from representatives from campus administration and other departments  including the Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning Department to ensure the successful integration of the project into the campus.

Historic plant material was selected that not only supported the campus theme but met LEED certification standards for drought tolerance. Pedestrian spaces were created to house the monument that celebrates the lives of Agriculture Students lost in a tragic accident along with  a unique garden area between the building and Highway 89 designed to showcase plant material the College of Agriculture is known for.
