University of Utah Landscape Master Plan

University of Utah Landscape Master Plan

Salt Lake City, Utah
Client: University of Utah
Scope: Planning

The University of Utah has been growing rapidly to meet the increasing demands for higher education. The Landscape Master Plan is intended to encourage unity in the design of the campus landscape and establish a cohesive brand that connects existing and newly developed exterior spaces.

The plan reinforces the existing network of pedestrian circulation routes and creates a hierarchy of outdoor spaces. It promotes changes that enhance those exterior spaces and focuses on how to better connect students and faculty to the places they visit. Creating outdoor rooms with placemaking elements encourage student gathering/interaction,   while proving areas for contemplation and study.

Specific focus on the campus’s tree canopy and purposeful use of lawn and regionally appropriate plant material also ensure the campus decreases dependency on irrigation and maintenance and provides more shadey spaces for activities.
