Client: Edward Lifesciences
Scope: Landscape Architecture
Edwards Lifesciences is a medical equipment manufacturing company specializing in artificial heart valves and hemodynamic monitoring. They acquired an existing facility to establish their Utah branch of the company. Their vision for this facility is to develop a regionally appropriate landscape and create outdoor amenities and spaces for employee use.
Existing expanses of lawn and outdated landscape beds were replaced with sculpted three dimensional landforms covered in tight and organized bands of regionally appropriate perennials, ornamental grasses, and flowering shrubs. The spaces between the landforms are organized into pathways and plazas paved with brick and enhanced with custom benches and shade structures. To enhance the company’s tradition of encouraging healthy lifestyles, an active area was designed that includes a grass volleyball court, bocce courts, and a high level sports field with symmetrical grading and a perimeter drain system. The active area doubles as the venue for the annual employee barbecue.
